Questions & Answers

| Ask a Question
What software do I need to access a TROLL instrument? Where can I get this software?
The RuggedReader Handheld comes with up to 3 In-Situ software options already installed. The Win-Situ mobile (used with Level TROLL and Aqua TROLL), Pocket-Situ 4 (used with the miniTROLL, multi-parameter TROLL 9500, multi-parameter TROLL 9000), and TDG Logger (used with the T506 Total Dissolved Gas Probe). If you do not opt for the pre-loaded model, you can purchase the software separately under the Accessories Tab.
Can I charge the battery?
Yes, the RuggedReader Handheld comes with a wall charger. The RuggedReader Handheld takes 4.5 hours to charge to 95%.
Can I back up my data?
The TROLL RuggedReader's non-volatile flash memory is designed to protect data. However, it is still a good idea to back up your work regularly by saving information to a desktop computer or to a Compact Flash (CF) or Secure Digital (SD) card. Information on how to do this is available in the Manual.
What is the difference between suspending and powering off the RuggedReader?
Suspending the RuggedReader puts it to sleep, and when it is turned back on, the device remembers where it was. Some battery power is used while in suspended mode. Powering off the device closes all programs and turns off all of the power. No battery power is used.
Why does my RuggedReader keep turning off in the field?
By default, the RuggedReader will suspend (not power off) automatically after three minutes of inactivity. To adjust the time when the device suspends, tap start > settings> system tab> power. Select the Advanced tab, then adjust the device timeout as desired and tap OK.

Researchers Find Link Between Climate Change and Gastrointestinal Illnesses

An understanding of climate change’s effects on the environment has become commonplace and grows every day, but one researcher from Florida State University is looking to answer a new question: What are climate change’s effects on people’s health? In one of the first studies of its kind, Chris Uejio, an assistant professor at FSU, and a team of researchers studied how climate change can affect the roughly 20 million Americans (according to the Environmental Protection Agency) who consume untreated drinking water on a daily basis. Because climate forecasts are predicting higher rainfall rates over the next few decades, coming down in intense storms, Uejio said those flashes could cause flare-ups in waterborne illnesses.
