Energy Information Administration releases nuclear energy trends

The U.S. Energy Information Administration recently released and infographic depicting the growth of nuclear power over the past 56 years. The graphic shows that North America has the greatest nuclear electricity generating capacity at 115.4 gigawatts in 2011. However, Asia has experienced the greatest growth over the past 30 years, quadrupling its nuclear capacity from 1980 to 2010. China alone quadrupled its capacity in the last 10 years.

The recent surge in nuclear energy facilities is attributed to an increase in electricity demand and a general consciousness of the impact of carbon emissions.
