There’s no shortage of options when it comes to water quality monitoring equipment. If you’re looking for an all-in-one multi-parameter sampling meter, then the YSI ProDSS is a prime choice. Along with its field-rugged construction, backlit display, rechargeable battery, a wide selection of cable lengths and a long list of measurement parameters, the meter offers the latest in smart sensor technology.

Constructed of titanium and laser welded, the smart sensors offer superior performance in fresh, brackish and saltwater applications. Upon connection, the smart sensors are automatically displayed on the meter. With internally stored calibration constants, any sensor can plug into any port and provide accurate data in just seconds.

The lengthy list of standard measurements includes water temperature, conductivity, salinity, dissolved oxygen, pH, ORP, turbidity, algae and depth. Ion selective electrodes (ISE) for ammonium, nitrate, and chloride are also available, but as with any ISE, frequent calibration is required.

The number of sensor connections is limited by the four-port bulkhead located on the cable assembly, with several additional parameters calculated from one or a combination of installed sensors. Cable length options vary from 1 to 100 meters for convenient sampling in shallow and deep water applications.

The handheld meter is field-ready with IP-67 waterproof and drop-resistant specifications and a robust military-spec connector. A backlit, color and sunlight-readable display offers easy navigation and built-in Help. The backlit keypad assists in low-light operation.

The YSI ProDSS offers outstanding data quality. An internally stored GLP (good laboratory practices) file tracks and stores calibration records to ensure defensible data. The GPS version of the meter adds geolocating along with the standard date/time and site stamps. This feature ensures accurate location for spot sampling and further enhances the data quality.

The micro USB port is used for data transfer to a computer or laptop running YSI KOR software. The port is also used to recharge the internal lithium-ion rechargeable battery, which provides 20 hours of continuous use.

The YSI ProDSS is backed with a 3-year instrument warranty and a 2-year cable and sensor warranty. Sensing elements and membranes need to be replaced periodically.

All in all, the YSI ProDSS sets the standard for spot sampling meters and is the instrument of choice for many environmental professionals worldwide.
