Overview
The Hach sensION+ MM340 benchtop multi-parameter meter is perfect for testing viscous media samples and samples with high solid content. Each kit measures pH, ORP, ISE, and temperature. Measurement ranges include -2 to 16 for pH, -2000 to 2000 mV for ORP, and -20 to 150 for temperature. Two measuring channels log up to 400 measurements each. Four calibration curves can hold up to 5 programmable standards per curve. Data can be transferred to a PC or printer for further use.

Global lake temperature database to aid in monitoring effects of global climate change
Lake temperatures all over the world have been rising due to climate change, and until recently only satellite data could show the phenomenon at a global scale. The efforts of York University researchers and others in 20 countries have doubled the assembled monitoring data, according to a recent York University press release.

Part of the Global Lake Temperature Collaboration project, the recent surface lake temperature data effort includes direct observations from 291 lakes and reservoirs all over the world. The collected measurements also include air temperature, solar radiation, latitude, longitude, lake depth, elevation and lake volume.

Data was collected from major lakes in North America, South America, Europe, Oceania and Asia.

In 2013, a Rhode Island senator cited a study on warming waters in his home state while urging action on climate change on the Senate floor. Later, he was labeled as telling half-truths by a newspaper fact-checker. In a new study, a scientist behind the temperature numbers in question has revisited the data and come back with new insight on the role of scientists in communicating the results of climate change research.

Climate scientists face a big challenge when it comes to translating the results of their complex calculations to the general public, especially when it comes to temperature records.

The Arctic has become the target of some ironic attention lately. While part of the international community eyes the region as a climate change indicator, many other entities have set their gaze on the oil and gas reserves that could fuel such change. Now a collaboration between federal and private sector organizations, as well as U.S. and Canadian scientists, seeks to uncover the workings of the Arctic Beaufort Sea ecosystem so that its potential for human use is understood alongside the requirements for its protection.

Being the federal agency responsible for offshore energy development, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management is leading the Marine Arctic Ecosystem Study with help from the other nine members of the National Oceanographic Partnership Program.
